BANNED FOOD INGREDIENTS STILL ALLOWED IN THE US

I will list the WORST banned food ingredients in a series of upcoming posts.

Number One:
Brominated Vegetable Oil (aka BVO).  Found in sports drinks and citrus-flavored sodas.  The FDA has approved this ingredient as safe.  BVO acts as an emulsifier, preventing the flavoring from separating and floating to the surface of a beverage.

Health Hazards:  Competing with iodine, elevated levels may lead to thyroid issues, such as hypothyroidism, autoimmune disease and cancer.  The main ingredient Bromine, is a poisonous chemical that is considered both corrosive and toxic.  Bromine has been linked to major organ failure, birth defects, growth problems, schizophrenia and hearing loss, which explains why it is banned in 100 countries.

Sports Drinks and Sodas:  Gatorade, Mountain Dew, Powerade, Fanta orange, Fresca, Squirt, and Sunkist.

Read the labels of all foods before you buy them to avoid toxic chemicals.  While it may seem like the US government is out to protect us from bad or "fatal food", and borne illnesses, they don't completely have our best interest or health in mind.
